For mold prevention, mold will be prevented if the area is cleaned regularly and the space is ventilated well. The fan that will be placed in the senior lounge will keep air circulation, and keep the area cool and mold-free. We can also scrub mold off hard surfaces with detergent and water, and  let it dry completely. As soon as moisture occurs on a surface, dry the wet surface to reduce the moisture and water right away. We also need to know the signs of mold. The signs of mold are followed; A musty odor, different colors near water such as black, gray, orange, and green, and watermarks on the ceiling and walls near the source of the hydro-gels are a big sign.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Circulation can be made throughout the movement of this cold air. After research, this website stated that this air can be moved through household items, and remedies. Placement of floor fans, attic fans, box fans, and whole house fans. You can also keep the shades drawn to keep out the harsh, hot sunlight that will add to the heat of the room. You can also keep lights, and lamp fixtures off to keep the overall temperature lower. We are trying to mimic the way termites cool their mounds. Some big buildings are already trying to do this but our idea is more of a small scale project and we went off in a different direction with this original idea in mind. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hydrogel is a polymer that expands in water. They take about two and a half to fully expand. The gels cool the surroundings as they evaporate. The turn back into their original solid state after all of the water is lost.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

As water evaporates from a surface, it cools that surface. Animals use panting to move air over the surface of mouth, throat and tongue. This method evaporates the water and the surfaces are cooled. This keeps their bodies cool especially during the hot, humid days. We based our project off of this method. Hydrogels partially replicate this method.
